A studio project for third year architecture students at CARE School of Architecture, Trichy.
This studio project is set in a background (context) that is strongly rooted to history, geographical location, culture and art of the region, on the banks of River Kaveri at Thiruvauyarru, birthplace of the legendary Carnatic musician Thiagaraja.
Thiruvaiyarru has few unique features... five rivers, a 10th century Siva temple - Aiyarrappar, the samadhi of saint Thiagaraja the most important of all the exponents of Carnatic music, and the place where the famous Thiagaraja Aradhana takes place once a year.
TOTAL SITE AREA - 20,500 Sq.m.
1) Performance Space for 1200 Singers during Aradhana day
2) Auditorium space for 300 people - 450 Sq.m.
3) Museum and Library spaces - 600 Sq.m. (Adjacent /Adjoining / Single block)
4) Administration space - 200 Sq.m.
5) Cafetaria for 50 people
6) Parking space for 15 Cars, 30 two wheelers and 3 Buses.
7) Riverfront – Pavilions, Steps, Decks, Demarcation of Boundary, Securing the Site.
8) Common Wash rooms for 50 people
Scene during annual Aradhana festival...
The design objective is to create a setting for many activities, most of all, the annual Thiagaraja aradhana festival, by redesigning a memorial for the musician Thiagaraja... along with developing the Kaveri river's edge as a vibrant public space...
