MASTER'S GALLERY

 


 

In 1973 when I joined first year architecture, one year after the birth of Architects Act 1972 and the Council of Architecture, the only Indian architects name I knew were Charles Correa and Achyut Kanvinde. There were only 17 schoools of architecture all over India. In the five year of studies that followed we heard only foreign names as masters. But for professional training in final year we had to hunt for 'masters' in the four big cities of the time, Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta and Madras followed by the garden and lakes city of Bangalore.

43 years since the recognition of the term 'Architect' have we really recognized the masters among us, who could be inspiration for the 388 plus growing schools all over the countryside?
